Germany – Third Reich: Original Promotion Document for promotion to Generalmajor, issued to Oberst Siegfried Marseille, the father of Hauptmann Marseille, the Luftwaffe ace, and recipient of the Knight’s Cross with Oakleaves, Swords and Diamonds, this dated 1st July 1941, bearing a facsimile signature of Adolf Hitler, and an original signature of Feldmarshal Von Brauchtisch. Contained in its original card protective folder with gilt German Eagle and Swastika device to outer cover. A rare document.

Condition: Good Condition, slight foxing.

Together with a fine period photograph of Generalmajor Siegfried Marseille, wearing his Iron Cross 1st Class and Prussian Observer’s Badge; and a period postcard of his son, Hauptmann Marseille, the Luftwaffe ace, shown wearing his Knight’s Cross with Oakleaves, Swords and Diamonds. 

Siegfried Marsille was a Great War German aviator, and father to Luftwaffe ace Hans Joachim Marseille’s, who during the Second World War served in the Wehrmacht, and was promoted to Generalmajor on 1st July 1941. Siegfried Marsille was the instigator of his sons interest in aviation, his son going on to become the highest scoring German ace in North Africa, being nicknamed ‘The Star of Africa’, he was awarded the Knight’s Cross with Oakleaves, Swords and Diamonds, and had 158 aerial victories to his name, all but seven of them against British and Commonwealth pilots.
